Energy in East Africa is two stories happening at once. The grid story, with geothermal power in Kenya, hydropower across the region and Uganda's recent oil discoveries, is dominated by state utilities and large private operators. The off-grid story is bigger and more entrepreneurial: solar home systems, mini-grids, productive-use solar for water pumps and cold storage, biogas digesters on dairy farms, and clean-cookstove distributors reaching markets the grid will not arrive at for decades.

EABD lists solar installers, mini-grid developers, oil and gas service contractors, hydro operators, biofuel producers, and the equipment importers behind them. Verified profiles let buyers, from a county procurement office to a single homeowner, find an installer near them with a verified track record, and contact them without phoning every advert in a Whatsapp group.

About Somalia

Somalia's private sector has grown largely on its own terms. Livestock exports through Berbera, Bosaso and Kismayo, a remittance and money-transfer industry that connects the diaspora to every town, some of the continent's most widely used mobile-money services, and a construction and import trade centred on Mogadishu keep the economy moving. Somalia joined the East African Community in 2024, opening its traders to a market of more than 300 million people.

EABD lists Somali businesses in Mogadishu and across all 18 regions, from Hargeisa and Borama in the north-west to Garowe, Galkayo, Baidoa and Kismayo. Browse by region, by town, or by industry. Where a business is verified, EABD has confirmed its registration with the relevant ministry or chamber of commerce and its contact details, so buyers, NGOs and diaspora investors can reach a real counterpart directly.
